Abstract

This research discusses the implications and effects of parental divorce on children from an Islamic perspective. The research problem is highlighted in several aspects, perhaps foremost among them: the increase in divorce rates in Arab countries, similar to countries worldwide. The existence of deep and multiple negative effects of divorce on children, where children suffer psychological consequences such as: anxiety, depression, lack of emotional security, deterioration of social relationships, poor academic performance, and difficulty adapting to economic and social changes in their lives. Recent studies indicate that divorce can have lasting effects on children, affecting their mental health and social behavior in the long term. The research adopted a descriptive analytical approach. The results confirmed the presence of psychological effects on children, social challenges, educational impacts, as well as a deterioration in the economic situation of the dispersed family. It was found that divorce is not just the end of a marital relationship, but the beginning of a complex phase of challenges faced by children. At a time when the Islamic religion confirms that divorce is a last resort; after exhausting all possible means of reconciliation between spouses, and stresses the importance of dealing with its consequences wisely and mercifully, especially towards children. Therefore, the hadith states: "The most hated of permissible things to Allah is divorce," which indicates the necessity of avoiding divorce except in cases of extreme necessity.
